Social action is a fundamental part of OBC´s activity and that is why we work to bring symphonic music closer to people who are vulnerable, in collaboration with Apropa Cultura. The OBC is working on these projects with these groups:
An orchestral morning
The An Orchestral Morning programme is aimed at people with intellectual disabilities.
The participants will meet up with musicians from the OBC who offer them a small private performance. Then they attend the rehearsal with the whole orchestra and finish the day at the Auditori with a music workshop where they become musicians, under the direction of a music therapist. In the last season, more than 700 people took part. This programme is sponsored by the MRW Foundation. Watch video
An Orchestral Morning Workshops
The An Orchestral Morning workshops have a version adapted to people affected by Alzheimer's disease and their relatives and carers. This activity is carried out in collaboration with students of the ESMUC who offer them a live performance. Later, they attend the OBC rehearsal and finish with a music workshop. Almost 400 people took part in the last season. Watch video
Et toca a tu (It´s up to you)
Since 2012 we have presented the project Et toca a tu (It's up to you) , a participatory concert in which entities that work with music as an educational and social inclusion tool share a stage with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra. Schools prepare the concert in the classrooms, with the accompaniment of musicians from the OBC and then offer the concert together to the public of L'Auditori. In the 2018-19 season we will work with the EntreCordes project at the Pepa Colomer School in El Prat de Llobregat and we will premiere a work commissioned to the composer Mariona Vila. This project is sponsored by the Fundació Caixa d'Enginyers and the Diputació de Barcelona.
Social commitment of the OBC
Through the OBC Social Commitment programme, we dedicate 6 programmes of the season to 6 entities that give visibility to different problems in our society. The aim is to raise awareness of social problems or causes in our environment and to give visibility and dissemination to the entities that work to achieve a fairer and more inclusive society. We also invite its users to the concert so that they can have a different experience.
