Jan Willem de Vriend
Principal Guest Conductor
· Principal conductor of the Residentie Orchestra of the Hague
· Principal Guest Conductor of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra
The Dutchman Jan Willem de Vriend is the current principal guest conductor of the OBC, as well as the chief conductor of the Residentie Orchestra of the Hague. From 1982 to 2015 he was artistic director and violinist of the Combattimento Consort Amsterdam, a group that he himself founded and which achieved many successes, especially with little-known works of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries and the Dutch classical avant-garde repertoire. He enjoys great international acclaim and after starting with his own season at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, he has toured around the world.
Among the orchestras with which he has collaborated or will soon do is the Philharmonie Zuidnederland, the Orkest van het Oosten, the Rotterdam Philharmonisch Orkest, the National Orchestra of Flanders, the Lille National Orchestra, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the NDR Orchester, the Philharmonie Stuttgart, the WDR Orchester, the Tonhalle Orchester, the Bergen Philharmonic and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. On 29 July, he will be conducting the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra at the Concertgebouw.
His participation in operas based on works by Monteverdi, Händel, Telemann, Bach, Gassmann or Mozart and directed by the stage director Eva Buchmann, with which he has toured throughout Europe and America is also noteworthy.
